• the consumer safety complaint database related to motor vehicles, motor vehicle equipment, child safety seats, and tires compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

• NHTSA's Early Warning Reporting (EWR) database, created pursuant to the Transportation Safety Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act.

In such a data-rich environment, many large scale, costly, product recalls and withdrawals are neither inevitable nor acceptable.
