Early Warning of Consumer Product Safety
and Reliability Problems

Tacoma Narrows bridge collapse.

Many businesses understand the need to identify and track post-marketing problems in the quality of their products and services as early as possible. The sooner these problems are recognized and understood, the less expensively they can be fixed.

Consumers certainly know that avoiding substandard products and services is in their obvious, best interest.

Increasingly, both producers and consumers are using the Internet to do product research. Databases related to public health and safety are especially important for this purpose. Some of the better known include:

• the Adverse Event Reporting System (AERS) maintained by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

• the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) available through FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

• the consumer safety complaint database related to motor vehicles, motor vehicle equipment, child safety seats, and tires compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

• NHTSA's Early Warning Reporting (EWR) database, created pursuant to the Transportation Safety Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act.

In such a data-rich environment, many large scale, costly, product recalls and withdrawals are neither inevitable nor acceptable.

As scientists specializing in this field, we offer product and service monitoring to businesses, consumers and consumer advocates, attorneys, and insurers. Government agencies and regulators may also benefit from our experience.

If we may be of service to you, please to send us an email.
