Your company receives a $1,000 claim for fraudulent medical costs.

The claimant gives a date of birth as May 12, 1976. He also invents a random SSN to hide his true identity.

There's a greater than 80 percent chance he will choose a SSN listed in our database as invalid, based on his birthday.

If you spot this "red flag" and seek confirmation, you could save your company the cost of this claim…and possible future claims from the same source.

Detect possible fraud

Invalid social security numbers (SSNs) can indicate possible fraud. They're often easy to detect, and closer investigation can significantly reduce damages to your business. This is especially true when SSN validation is performed at initial point of contact or account inception.

QCS offers a simple, cost-effective tool for detecting invalid SSNs. Our database includes a list of numbers, their assignment status, the place of issuance, and the time periods when they were issued.

Fewer than half of all possible SSNs have ever been assigned. Even fewer were assigned after a given date.

If someone gives 1976 as his year of birth, then his SSN must have been assigned in 1976 or later. Our database shows the valid possibilities are less than a fifth of all possible 9-digit numbers. Thus, it detects the vast majority of random attempts to invent SSNs by people claiming to be this age.

Users of our database have included insurers, insurance crime investigators, and a class action settlement trust. We make monthly updates to these data in an ASCII text file.
